Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a Roof Coating?
Roof Coating is an alternative roofing system. Roof coatings are a liquid applied, continuous rubber or acrylic, ultraviolet, protective, sustainable membrane. When applied correctly over your existing roof, it will extend the useful life of the roof.
Q: What type of roofs can benefit from a Roof Coating?
A: Almost every roof can benefit from preventative maintenance roof coatings. The types of roof that can most benefit from a coating system is any flat roof such as roll roofing, asphalt, rock, metal, cement, etc. The reason for this is that all flat roofs should be coated with reflective white to maximize energy conservation.
Q: How thick should a Roof Coating be applied?
A: We specify an exact amount in our warranty found under the Technical info tab.
Two gallons per 100 square feet is what we advise.
Q: Why do you think your product is superior?
A: Our system is designed around solving every problem where others come up short.
For example, even the smallest amount of pooling spells disaster for any other system causing first discoloration and eventually total roof failure. Our system fixes the first of those issues by alleviating discoloration completely and goes much further towards preventing failure due to pooling than any of our competitors.
Q: How does your coverage compare to your competitors?
A: Most other products take up to 3 gallons to fully waterproof 100 square feet. Our coating will get better coverage, brighter reflectivity a stronger membrane and better waterproofing with just 2 gallons applied evenly per 100 square feet.
Q: How does your product cool compared to others?
A: We firmly believe ours is the best in this category by far, providing close to a third more cooling than some of our competitors. We're simply the brightest and whitest you can get.
The FAA regulates how bright and reflective a roof coating can be, we actually dull our coating to achieve a legal level of reflectivity.
Q: How much prep is needed and how easy is application?
A: Applications are easier with our system than any other - all we take is a clean surface, no primer needed. The optimal way to prep your roof is always a pressure washer but, if that's not available, a stiff broom to get dust or any debris off the surface usually works. Make sure the surface is dry then just apply our product with a roller brush, mop, or any of our easy application accessories. If you can paint a wall, you can apply it yourself.
Q: How do you make sure your roof is properly prepared for application?
Preparation concerns:
With every application, surface condition is of prime importance. We recommend a roofing professional evalute the roof. If the existing roof has completely failed, no coating alone can solve your problem.
Most roofs under 12 years with sufficient drainage can be prepared for coating by sweeping clean with a stiff broom and blowing away surface dust. Remember, our coatings are a commercial strength adhesive and no primer is necessary. (Rock roofs are more extensive and you will want to contact us further.)
Q: Is your product "Sil-Thane"?
No. We are similar to the Sil-Thane 803 in that we claim all the same benefits. Not having their formula, I cannot say how theirs is made; but, I do know that our suppliers have told us that we are the only company who uses two cross-linking resins.
Q: How quickly do you dry?
Let me give you an example that shows the difference between us and other companies coatings.
If it's raining tomorrow, you can fix your roof today without worrying about leakage.
We are the only coating company that offers a product that dries in just 15 minutes.
That means our coating can be used on interior stairwells and parking structures because of our quick drying time, high reflectivity and superior adhesion.
